Merry Whatever You Celebrate

The holidays are a special time of the year where most people who normally can't stand each other get together in silly sweaters and at the very least, act happy. Whatever you celebrate around this season, it's obvious that people act slightly nicer than they normally do.

Doors are held open, meals and toys are donated to the needy, spirits are all around better. All of this reassurance in humanity.

Once these times are over however, society will go right back to being its normal greedy and inconsiderate self, just like it has every year before. This year I am reaching out to you, my readers to keep the holiday spirit going past the holidays and into 2013. It doesn't need to be a special time of the year for us to act a little more civil to each other. I challenge you to go out there and make someone happy! Be a little more patient with your waiter if you see they are busy, give some food to the homeless guy sitting outside the grocery store, even a nice complement to a stranger can go a long way.

All I'm saying is that I know we as a species are capable of being a little more loving and caring to each other. I know we can do it, so go out there and make me proud!

And whatever it is you celebrate, I wish you all the best and know that I love you all!

Nicely put. The "door" effect is lovely to watch and I do it all the time, hold the door for one person and they get a grin, say thank you and hold it for the next, creating a domino effect. Sure you get the selfish ones who walk through without a nod to you, but the others more than make up for it. And it extends to other kindnesses. So yeah I always try to do this (except when some %$#! driver doesn't know how to drive or park the SUV they shouldn't be allowed to drive...oops sorry) and like you will continue. But during the zombie apocalypse all bets are off, my family and those I consider family come first. (And the non-driving SUV people are zombie fodder if I can help it!) Happy holidays and healthy New Year!
